IAC SOFTBALL: WILLIAMS, BIG INNING PROPEL TIOGA TO 20-7 WIN OVER SVEC (24 PHOTOS) (2023-04-03)

TIOGA CENTER - Sophomore Mckenzie Williams collected seven RBI to lead Tioga to a 20-7 five-inning win over SVEC here Monday afternoon in IAC softball action.

The Lady Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the home half of the first inning, capped by a two-out, two-RBI single by Williams. They added two more runs in the second inning on a two-out, two-run single by Williams to make it 5-0.

Tioga erupted for 15 runs in the third inning to blow the game wide open.The rally featured a three-run home run by sophomore Erin Luther, a three-run double by junior Emily Bidwell, a two-run double by Williams, a two-run single by freshman RaeAnne Feeko, and and RBI single by junior Chloe Gillette.

The Lady Eagles broke up the shutout with a run in the top of the fourth inning, then pushed six across the plate in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the IAC's 12-run "mercy rule."

Williams had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs to go along with her seven RBI, and Luther homered and singled, scored four runs, and drove in three runs to lead Tioga’s 14-hit attack.

Senior Megan Shumway singled twice and scored two runs, and senior MyKenzie Thetga added a pair of singles for the Lady Tigers, while Bidwell doubled and drove in three runs, junior Megan Vance doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs, and Gillette singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run.

Senior Felicia Lantz singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs in the win, while Feeko singled, and scored two runs, and junior Elizabeth Shaffer scored four runs.

Luther earned the win for the Lady Tigers, She struck out nine in five innings, while allowing seven runs on six hits and seven walks.

Jillian Holmes doubled and singled and scored one run to lead SVEC at the plate, while Ciara Peterson singled twice, scored one run, and had one RBI, and Aubrie Kastenhuber tripled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.

Tioga, now 2-0, returns to action April 15 at Sayre and Athens.
