WAVERLY 5-YEAR-OLD, LEEVI SHARPSTEEN, WINS RACING DEBUT AT MILLBRIDGE SPEEDWAY (2023-04-05)

SALISBURY, N.C. — Five-year-old Leevi Sharpsteen is already hitting speeds in excess of 55 miles per hour behind the wheel of his Winged Outlaw kart. On Saturday, the Waverly youth made a successful racing debut, winning his first race — the Cadet feature here at, one of the most popular dirt tracks in the country, Milbridge Speedway.

Sharpsteen, a fourth generation race car driver, is in the driver’s seat of a racing machine that has an  L206 engine and averages around 52 miles per hour. He runs a phantom race chassis and Hoosier racing tires.

Sharpsteen  is currently driving for Tony Jilson, a 2006 Waverly graduate who is employed in the NASCAR industry with Trackhouse Racing. Jilson operates Jilson Juice Driver Development and has helped many young drivers succeed to the next level.

The Waverly youngster attends Lincoln Street Elementary school, and also plays football, baseball, and is part of Waverly’s youth wrestling program, as well as the Independent Wrestling Club.
