SAYRE LITTLE LEAGUE CELEBRATES OPENING DAY OF 2023 SEASON (24 PHOTOS) (2023-04-29)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — The Sayre Little League held its annual Opening Day ceremonies under gray skies, but on a Saturday morning without rain, in front large of a large crowd of parents, grandparents, and fans at Riverfront Park.

Incoming Sayre Little League president Paul Blythe welcomed all those in attendance, and lauded the fact the Sayre Little League was the only Little League in the area not to cancel its opening day activities.

The day did not go off without a hitch, however, as a mishap on the Majors Field while taking the tarp off the infield caused the ceremonies to be moved to the Minors Field.

Sayre varsity baseball coach Jamie VanDuzer spoke about Sayre Little League being the foundation on which the high school program’s success is built. He told the kids to work hard, be respectful, listen to their coaches, and most importantly, have fun.

After the seniors from the Sayre baseball team tossed the ball “around the horn,” senior Jackson Hubbard threw a ceremonial pitch to his brother Easton Hubbard, who is currently a Little Leaguer.

Outgoing Sayre LL president Todd Green threw the ceremonial first pitch of the 2023 season to Blythe.
