IAC SOFTBALL: BIDWELL POWERS TIOGA IN 15-3 ROUT OF NEWARK VALLEY (19 PHOTOS) (2023-05-01)

NEWARK VALLEY — Tioga rapped out 19 hits, including three extra-base hits by junior Emily Bidwell, in a 15-3 six-inning win over Newark Valley here Monday afternoon in IAC South softball action.

Bidwell cracked her first career home run, and a pair of doubles, scored three runs, and had three RBI for the Lady Tigers, while senior Kathleen Toomey had three hits, including a double, one run scored, and three RBI, junior Megan Vance stroked three singles and scored three runs, and junior Elizabeth Shaffer had three hits and scored one run.

Sophomore McKenzie Williams belted a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and had four RBI in the win, while senior Felicia Lantz doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and junior Chloe Gillette singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in one run.

Freshman RaeAnne Feeko singled and scored one run, and sophomore Erin Luther crossed the plate once.

Luther earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking four in four innings of work.

Feeko closed out the game, allowing an unearned run, while striking out four and walking none in two innings of hitless relief.

The Lady Tigers took immediate control in the top of the first inning.

With two outs and Vance, who stroked a one-out single, on second base, Lantz put Tioga on the board with an RBI double, and scored on an RBI-double by Williams to make it 2-0.

Bidwell capped the rally by hitting a 2-0 pitch over the center field fence to make it 4-0.

Tioga added three more two-out runs in the top of the third on a two-RBI double by Toomey, and an RBI single by Gillette to make it 7-0.

Newark Valley got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, but Tioga answered with five runs in the top of the fourth. The rally was highlighted by Williams’ three-run double, and also featured an RBI double by Bidwell, and an RBI single by Toomey.

Tioga led 13-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning, and scored two runs on an error to take a 15-3 lead.

Feeko retired the Lady Cardinals in order in the home half of the sixth to end the game via the 12-run “mercy” rule.

Tioga, now 9-0, host IAC Large School power Notre Dame Wednesday.
