ATHENS — Under blue skies and bright sunshine, Athens Little League celebrated Opening Day 2023 in front of a large crowd of family, friends, and fans.

After each Athens Little League team was introduced and marched on to the field, the emcee welcomed everyone, and honored last year’s Minors Division team that won a District 15 titles.

Jason Wanck, a former Athens Little League baseball coach, and current softball coach, tossed out the ceremonial first pitch for the softball season.. Wanck was lauded for the time he spends on the fields getting them ready to play, and maintaining them.

Former Athens Little Leaguer Izaak Hobday, who went on to letter in cross country, football, and track & field in high school, threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the baseball season.

Hobday is headed to Germany this summer for the Special Olympics World Games, where he will compete in the 1,500-meter run, the 5K, and the 1,600-meter relay.
