IAC SOFTBALL: EDISON USES A PAIR OF 8-RUN INNINGS IN 21-5 WIN OVER TIOGA (19 PHOTOS) (2023-05-08)

TIOGA CENTER — Edison used a pair of eight-run innings to roll to a 21-5 win over Tioga here Monday afternoon in IAC South softball action.

The Lady Spartans scored three unearned runs in the top of the first inning, then scored eight times in the second to take a 11-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning in a rally highlighted by a three-run double by sophomore Mckenzie Williams, and an RBI single by junior Chloe Gillette.

Edison added a run in the third inning — on an RBI single by Gabby Milazzo — and a run in the fifth inning — on an RBI double by Milazzo, to extend their lead to 13-4.

Tioga answered with one run in the home half of the fifth on an RBI double by senior Felicia Lantz to make it 13-5.

The Lady Spartans brought the 12-run “mercy” rule into play with eight more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Williams rapped a pair doubles, and had three RBI, and Gillette singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run to pace Tioga’s seven-hit attack.

Lantz doubled and knocked in one run for the Lady Tigers, while 8th-grader Emily Shiner singled — her first varsity hit — and scored one run, junior Emily Bidwell singled and scored one run, senior Kathleen Toomey, and sophomore Erin Luther each scored one run.

Milazzo had four hits, including a tripled and a double, and six RBI to lead Edison at the plate, while Emma Maggs stroked four singles, scored four runs, and drove in one run, and Kailey Ripley doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI

The Lady Spartans banged out 18 hits in all, including three doubles and three triples.

Milazzo was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking one in six innings to earn the win.

Tioga, now 9-2, will host Notre Dame Tuesday, then face Union Springs Thursday at 3 p.m. at Wells College in the overall IAC Small School Championship game.
