YOUTH WRESTLING: TIOGA 7TH-GRADER NELSON WINS MAWA EASTERN NATIONALS (2023-05-09)

SALISBURY, Md. — Tioga 7th-grader needed just 2 minutes, and 36 seconds on the mat to win three matches, and claim MAWA Eastern Nationals title here in the “School Girl” 170-pound division.

Nelson qualified for Nationals by winning the Regional tournament in Bloomsburg, Pa.

After receiving a bye in the round-of-16 to advance to the quarterfinals. she pinned Gabby Leet of Montgomery, Pa in 45 seconds.

In the semifinals, Nelson pinned Mikayla Miller of Beach Lake, Pa. in 32 seconds.

In the finals, she decked Kaylee Dunn of Fredicksburg, Va. in 1:19.

This year in the Girls Only Division, there were a total of 1,500 wrestler who advanced to Maryland from more than 10 states.
