ATHENS / SAYRE LITTLE LEAGUE: WILLIAMS FORD OPENS SEASON WITH WINS OVER TOWANDA, SAYRE (2023-05-12)

ATHENS — Athens’ Williams Ford opened the season with a pair of wins, shutting out Towanda, 8-0, and outslugging Sayre, 18-8, in Bradford County Little League Majors Division action.

Williams Ford 8, Towanda 0

Ryan Hicks was unhittable on the mound, and had three hits at the plate, including a home run, to power Williams Ford to a season-opening, 8-0, win over Towanda.

Hicks fanned 18 and walked one in six innings to earn the win.

At the plate, Hicks homered, stroked two singles, scored three runs, and had one RBI, while Theron May doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Thomas Dickson singled twice and had three RBI.

Gavin Ross singled and drove in one run in the win, while Tyler Pelchy singled and scored one run, Graham Campbell added a double, and Eli Wayman and Nico Rossetti each scored one run.

Williams Ford 18, Sayre 8
Williams Ford jumped on top with 10 runs in the bottom of the first, and pulled away late in an 18-8 four-inning win over Sayre.

Sayre closed the gap to 12-8 after 3 1/2 innings, but Williams Ford scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to invoke the 10-run “mercy rule.”

Ryan Hicks powered Williams Ford at the plate with a home run, two triples, three runs scored, and four RBI, while Nico Rossettie hit an inside-the-park grand slam home run, doubled, and singled, scored two runs, and had five RBI, and Gavin Ross stroked three singles, scored three runs, and had two RBI.

Elliott Chilson doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Theron May singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, Eli Wayman singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Graham Campbell doubled and scored two runs.

Thomas Dickson scored two runs and had one RBI for Williams Ford, while Cam Johnson had one run scored and one RBI, and Tyler Pelchy scored one run.

Pelchy earned the win for Williams Ford, allowing no earned runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings, while striking out six. Wayman earned the save, allowing two earned runs on two hits in 1 1/3 innings, with three strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Rossettie hit his inside-the-park grand slam to make it 17-8, and Hicks followed with a solo blast over the center field fence to end the game.

James Lincoln doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI to lead Sayre at the plate, while Blake Chapman and Em Lee each singled and scored one run, Trenton Lynch singled and drove in one run run, and Chase Lathrop added a single.

Zachary Hall scored one run and drove in one run for Sayre, while Eli Ross, Caleb Conden and Gabe Wheeler each scored one run, and Colton Matthews-Fuller, and Carsen Hunt each had one RBI.
