IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA DROPS TWO GAMES AT TESTA TOURNAMENT (2023-05-13)
Valley Sports ReportENDICOTT - Tioga dropped a pair of games — 14-2 to U-E, and 9-7 to Owego — here Saturday at the Testa Softball Tournament, which was rained out two weeks ago.
The Lady Tigers fall to 9-7 on the season, and have lost seven in a row.
Union-Endicott 14, Tioga 2U-E scored in all six innings on its way to a 14-2 win over Tioga Saturday morning.
U-E scored two runs in the top of the first inning, and Tioga answered with one run in the home half of the inning on an RBI single by sophomore Mckenzie Williams to close the gap to 2-1.
U-E scored two runs in the second, and three more in the third inning to extend its lead to 7-1.
The runs kept coming as U-E scored two in the fourth, three more in the fifth, and two in the sixth to push the lead to 14-1.
Sophomore Erin Luther rapped an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide the final margin.
Luther doubled and drove in a run, while Williams singled and knocked in one run, and freshman RaeAnne Feeko and junior Megan Vance each singled and scored one run to account for Tioga’s four hits.
Owego 9, Tioga 7One day after beating Tioga, 15-3, Owego scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, and led 8-1 after two innings, but had to hold off the Lady Tigers in a 9-7 win.
Freshman Emily Shiner led off the top of the fourth inning with a single. With two outs, junior Chloe Gillette stroked an RBI single to make it 8-2.
After a walk to freshman RaeAnne Feeko, Vance lined an RBI single up the middle, then Luther capped the rally with a three-run home run to left field to close the gap to 8-6.
In the top of the fifth inning, Shiner and junior Emily Bidwell stroked back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third. Junior Megan Shumway lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Shiner and trim the deficit to 8-7.
Owego added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-7.
Williams worked a walk to lead off the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Bidwell reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second, but an infield pop out ended the game.
Shiner stroked three singles, and scored three runs to lead Tioga at the plate, while Gillette singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Bidwell singled twice, and Luther homered, scored one run, and drove in three runs.
Vance singled, scored one run, and drove in one run for the Lady Tigers, while Feeko singled and scored one run, freshman Lily Mezzatesta singled and drove in one run, and Shumway had one RBI.
