ATHENS — Jay’s Carpet One split a pair of games recently, beating Williams Ford, 7-2, and dropping a 6-5 decision to Gannon Associates here in Athens Little League Majors Division action.

Jay’s Carpet One 7, Williams Ford 2
Williams Ford struck first with two runs in the top of the first, but Jay’s Carpet One dominated the remainder of the game on its way to a 7-2 win Monday night.

Jay’s Carpet One answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, built a 4-2 lead, and tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth inning.

Jacob Saxon earned the win for Jay’s, allowing two runs on two hits in 5 1/3 innings, with 12 strikeouts. Griffin Smith struck out two in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Evan Westerfield tripled and had one RBI, and Easton Paul tripled to lead Jay’s at the plate, while Saxon had two RBI, and Carter Wells and Smith each added a single.

Ryan Hicks singled twice to account for Williams Ford’s two hits.

Tyler Pelchy (1 2/3 innings), Theron May (two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings), and Hicks (six strikeouts in two innings) shared the pitching duties for Williams Ford.

Gannon Associates 6, Jay’s Carpet One 5
Jay’s Carpet One took an early 3-0 lead, and led 5-3 after three innings, but Gannon Associates rallied, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull out a 6-5 win Tuesday night.

Caleb Gorsline stroked three singles, while E.J. Glielmi had two hits and three RBI, and Shea Davidson had two hits to pace Gannon’s at the plate. Aiden Briggs added a double in the win, and Mason McLinko singled.

Gorsline earned the win, striking out four in 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief. Davidson struck out two in one inning, and Briggs fanned three in 1 1/3 innings.

Evan Westerfield singled and had three RBI to pace Jay’s at the plate, while Easton Paul tripled, and
Jacob Saxon, and Griffin Smith each added a single.

Paul (five strikeouts in two innings), Westerfield (five strikeouts in three innings), and Smith (two strikeouts in one inning) shared the pitching duties for Jay’s, which is 4-2-1 on the season.
