ELMIRA — For Tioga’s Evan Sickler, it was a whole new experience on Thursday.

The junior was making his first trip to the golf state qualifier, facing the best golfers in Section IV.

In the end, Sickler just missed making it back to Saturday, after shooting a round of 92, but the experience was something fun.

"It was definitely an experience, it was fun," Sickler said. "It was fun, no matter if you are doing good or bad."

Sickler was four shots off the cutline, which was an 88. He shot 46 on both the front and the back nine on Thursday.

Right form the start on Thursday, the Tioga junior realized it just might not be his day.

"I think I putted a lot today," he said. "My second shot I hit it in the water, so I new it was going to be a bad day."

It was fun for Sickler to compete against all the best kids in Section IV.

"These kids, a lot are from bigger schools, every single kid is good," he said.

And, no matter what he did on Thursday it was a day off school to play golf.

"I didn’t really care what I did today, just getting off school was nice," he said.

This doesn’t end the season for Sickler as Tioga has IAC’s and class sectionals next week still.

"We still have Monday and Tuesday so at least we have a couple more matches," he said.

And, this experience gives him a better idea of what to expect if he makes it back to the state qualifier next season.

"For sure," he said.
