CORNING — Waverly grad Aubrey Ennis, a freshman on the Corning CC softball team, had a pair of hits in the top-seeded Lady Red Barons’ North A District finals-clinching win over fourth-seeded Hudson Valley CC here Friday afternoon.

Corning edged Hudson Valley, 4-3, in the first game, and blanked them 8-0 in the second game to sweep the best-of-three series to win the NJCAA Region III, Division III North A District tournament and earn an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division III Tournament for the third consecutive season.

Ennis was 0-for-3 in the first game Friday, but bounced back with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI in the second game. It was her 16th multi-hit game of the season.

On the season, Ennis, who has played in 43 games, is hitting .368 with five doubled, one triple, five home runs, 45 RBI, 44 runs scored, and two stolen bases.

Corning improves to 35-8 on the season, and has won 32 of their last 33 games.

Corning head coach Stacy Johnson was named the NJCAA Region III “Coach of the Year,” and Odessa-Montour grad Grace Vondracek was named the NJCAA Region III “Player of the Year.”

The Division III Championships is next weekend in DeWitt, N.Y.
