DISTRICT 4 TRACK & FIELD: QUIROS EARNS SAYRE'S LONE MEDAL AT CLASS AA CHAMPIONSHIPS (5 PHOTOS) (2023-05-20)

Valley Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Sophomore Marco Quiros earned Sayre’s lone medal at the two-day District 4, Class AA Track & Field Championships here Saturday at Williamsport High School.

Quiros placed eighth in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.74 seconds out of lane eight.

He also finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in 23.34 seconds — — missing out on a medal by just 0.003 seconds, and was 13th in the 400-meter dash in 53.25 seconds.

"What's  amazing is that Marco only ran the second half of the season and did what he did on little training," said Sayre coach John Stevens.

Sophomore Rose Shikanga finished 18th in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.66 seconds.

The Redskins had one athlete qualify for Districts in 2022, but under first-year coach John Stevens qualified four athletes — Quiros (100, 200, and 400), Shikanga (100 hurdles and 300 hurdles), and junior David Huang (shot put) in nine events. Freshman Kaitlyn Sutton qualified in three events, but could not participate.
