LYNCHBURG, Va. — Sayre grad Brayden Horton
, a freshman on the Division I Liberty University baseball team, earned multiple honors this week, being selected to the ASUN Conference All-Freshman team, as well as being named third-team all-ASUN all-conference team.
Horton, who is currently riding an 11-game hit streak, leads Liberty in hitting with a .342 batting average, and has 36 RBI, and 38 runs scored in 44 games this season. He also has 11 doubles, one triple, six home runs, and has walked 38 times for a team-high .482 on-base percentage.
Horton is fourth in the ASUN Conference in on-base percentage, and 11th in batting average. His 33 base on balls during ASUN Conference games leads the conference.
Horton assumed the starting first base job for the Flames on March 15. Since then, he has hit .345 with 36 RBI and 37 runs scored in 39 games.
In the season-ending series against Bellarmine, Horton was 7-for-12 with three multi-hit games, two doubles, one home run, six runs scored, and three RBI.
Horton stroked two singles and scored one run in a 5-0 win over Bellarmine Thursday.
On Friday, Horton homered and singled, scored three runs, and had one RBI in a 12-2 eight-inning win over Bellarmine.
In the regular-season finale Saturday, a 13-6 loss to Bellarmine, Horton ripped a pair of doubles and singled, scored two runs, and had one RBI.
Liberty, 26-28 on the season, opens ASUN Conference Championship play this afternoon against top-seeded Lipscomb.
