IAC BOYS GOLF: TIOGA FOURTH IN SMALL SCHOOL, WAVERLY FOURTH IN LARGE SCHOOL AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (19 PHOTOS) (2023-05-24)

ELMIRA — Tioga finished fourth in the Small School Division, and Waverly was fourth in the Large School Division here Tuesday afternoon at the IAC Boys Golf Championships at Soaring Eagles Golf Course.

Small School Division
Unbeaten during the regular season, Candor also claimed the team title at the league championship tournament, with a four-player aggregate score of 330, while runner-up Union Springs shot a 348, third-place Groton carded a 375, and Tioga tallied a 385.

Candor’s Jacob Banks was the low-medalist with a round of 78, just one stroke ahead of runner-up Luke Parker of Union Springs, and two shots ahead of third-place finisher Michael Culver of Union Springs.

Junior Evan Sickler led Tioga, finishing seventh with a round of 86, while junior Tyler Roe was 12th with a 93.

Sophomore James Luther shot a 98 to finish 15th, junior Ben Davis and Brandon Rafferty each shot rounds of 108, and junior Levi Bellis tacked on a non-scoring round of 110.

Large School Division

Lansing ran away with the Small School crown, carding a four-player aggregate score of 362, well ahead of runner-up Trumansburg and third-place Notre Dame, which carded 391 and 392, respectively. Waverly tallied a 430.

Trumansburg’s Nico Potenza earned low-medal honors with a 78, edging out Lansing’s Hunter Baughan, who also shot a 78, via a tiebreaker. Trumansburg’s Luca Hunter was third with an 83.

Senior Evan Davies led Waverly with a 102, which was good for 13th, while junior Devyn Kinney was 16th with a 106, senior Landon McCarty was 18th with a 108, and sophomore Carson McIsaac was 20th with a 114.

Freshman Mac Talada tacked a non-scoring round of 120, and senior Joey Bernatavitz added a non-scoring round of 122.

The IAC Boys golf championships marked the end of Waverly’s 35-year run in the IAC. It will join the STAC July 1.
