SECTION IV GIRLS GOLF: ROBINSON QUALIFIES FOR STATES AFTER TAKING SIXTH AT SECTIONALS (16 PHOTOS) (2023-05-25)

Valley Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — A season ago, Breanne Robinson just missed making it to the state meets.

Since that time, the Wolverines golfer went to work on her game, preparing for this season.

“Practiced a lot more,” she said.

That practice paid off on Thursday as she shot a 95 at the Section IV Girls’ Golf Championships at Soaring Eagles golf Course to finish sixth and earn a spot at states.

“I’m not happy, but I did pretty good I guess,” Robinson said of her score. “I am excited about (going to states). I’m thankful I did.”

Robinson was one of the first golfers to finish on the day, and as her score was up on the board she had to wait as the rest of the results came in to see if her score would place her in the top nine to make states.

“I was hoping no one beat me,” she said. “I am pretty happy.”

Ever since last year’s sectional meet, the Waverly golfer thought she’d have a shot to make it to states this year.

“From what I did last year I thought I had a chance to go, but I was scared,” she said.

Now it’s on to the state championships on June 4-5 at the Edison Club in Rexford.

“I’m scared, but I’m excited to go and I’m thankful I’m going,” Robinson said.

Waverly finished fifth as a team at 481. Horseheads won at 384.

Sophomore Madalyn Farnham was 27th for the Wolverines at 123 and sophomore Lauryn DeLill tied for 29th at 125.

Freshman Addison Hunt was 36th at 139 and junior Natalie Lauper was 38th at 142.
