PIAA TRACK & FIELD: ATHENS' BRONSON EXCITED FOR CHALLENGE TO RUN AT STATES; IS FOURTH SEED IN 3,200-METER RUN (2023-05-26)
Valley Sports ReportSHIPPENSBURG - Athens sophomore Sara Bronson will make her first appearance at the PIAA Class AA Track & Field Championships here Saturday morning at Shippensburg University.
Bronson, who was the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run last week at the District 4 meet, is the fourth seed with a seed time of 11:13.44 — a time that is nearly 16 seconds faster than the school-record time (11:29.32) she ran at last year’s District 4 meet.
Forest Hills senior Delaney Dumm is the top seed at 10:32.57, while Brownsville senior Jolena Quarzo is the second seed at 10:55.07, and Northeast Bradford sophomore Gracelyn Laudermilch, who edged Bronson for the District 4 title last week, is the third seed at 11:06.66.
Excited for the challenge to compete at States, Bronson simply wants to run her best race Saturday.
"I want to get a good start and then settle in and run a smart race," she said.
"I want to stay under control early in the race and then try to move up," Bronson noted. "I’m not thinking too much about where I am seeded, I just want to run the best race I can.
"Being able to run here as a sophomore is really great, I’m glad to get the experience competing against the best runners in the state," Bronson added. "I want to run the best race that I can."
Bronson’s coach Mike Bronson, who is also her father, says Sara’s goal is to treat this like any other race.
"I’m really excited for Sara, she has worked so hard to get to this level.
""(Saturday) she is focused on running her own race and competing as hard as she can," said Mike Bronson. "She has run really intelligent races all season and we are just trying to look at this as another race."
The 3,200-meter run is slated to start at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
