DeLAND, Fla. — Sayre grad Brayden Horton, a freshman on the Liberty baseball team, got his first taste of Division I postseason baseball and fared quite well.

Horton was 6-for-18 with two doubles, four RBI, and one run scored, but the Flames went 1-3 at the ASUN Conference Championship Tournament.

The lone Liberty win, however, was a 12-11 upset of top-seeded Lipscomb in the opening game of pool play. Horton doubled and singled, and had two RBI in the win.

The eighth-seeded Flames dropped an 8-0 decision to fourth-seeded Jacksonville in the second game on Wednesday. Horton was 0-for-4 to snap a 12-game hit streak.

Liberty then dropped a 15-12 slugfest to second-seeded Florida-Gulf Coast in the final game of pool play, Horton was 3-for-6 with two RBI in the loss.

The Flames were eliminated by Lipscomb, 7-3, in the semifinals on Saturday. Horton doubled and scored one run in the loss.

On the season, Horton led Liberty with a .341 batting average (56 hits in 164 ABs), and a .471 on-base percentage. He was second on the team with 38 base on balls, and was hit by pitches five times.

Horton, who started 44 games and appeared in 48 of Liberty’s 58 games, was second on the team with 13 doubles and six home runs, third on the team with 40 RBI, and fourth on the team with 56 hits. He also had one triple and one stolen base.

Liberty finishes the season at 27-31.
