THE VALLEY — Day 2 of the Section IV Track & Field State Qualifier is the lone event on Thursday’s slate, and the Waverly boys are poised to send a large contingent to next week’s New York State Division 2 Championships.

Providing they compete Thursday, junior Ralph Johnson and senior Kayleb Bechy will head to States in the 100-meter dash, and Johnson and senior Jerrell Sackett will run at States in the 200.

Waverly’s 400- and 1,600-meter relays are also odds-on-favorite to qualify for States.

Today’s schedule is punctuated by the finals of the 100- and 200-meter sprints, and the finals of the 400-meter relay. The Lady Wolverine 400-meter relay team also advanced to the finals, and their 1,600-meter relay will be in action.

Others in action today including junior Josh Courtney in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and sophomore Harper Minaker in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, as well as junior Jake Benjamin in the shot put, senior Ryan Clark in the final two events of the pentathlon, freshman Mira Kittle and sophomore Addison Westbrook in the pole vault, and 8th-grader Makenzie Olmsted in the 1,500-meter run.

For Tioga, junior Valentino is the third seed in the triple jump, while freshman Mia Hall will compete in the high jump, and freshman Abbie Engelbert will compete in the pole vault.

The Lady Tiger 400-meter relay advance to today’s final.

Action begins at 5 p.m. at Union-Endicott High School.
