WAVERLY SKEET TEAM WINS CONFERENCE TITLE; HEADED TO STATES JUNE 10 (2023-06-02)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY - The Waverly High School Skeet team won its conference title this season in the New York State Clay Target League, and will compete at the state tournament at the DeWitt Fish & Game Club in Jamesville on June 10.
The team is coached by Ray Houghton, with assistant coaches Reagan Vaughn, Mark Bakley, and Cayden Turcsik, who won a state gold medal, and led Waverly to a state title last year.
The Wolverines had a number of student-athletes in the Top 10 in the state this season.
For the boys, 7th-grader Griffin Walter placed third in the State for skeet with an average of 22.1 (out of 25), while 8th-grader Brandon Bennett was sixth with an average of 21.3, and 7th-grader Lukas Fourie was eight with a 21.1 average.
For the girls, junior Abigail Blauvelt was third in the State in Skeet with an average of 14.3, while 8th-grader Serenity Relyea was fourth at 12.2, sophomore Serenity Conklin was sixth at 7.5, and sophomore Makenna Pike was seventh at 4.8.
