SPECIAL OLYMPICS: ATHENS' HOBDAY WINS GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS AT WORLD GAMES (2023-06-21)
Valley Sports ReportBERLIN — Athens native Izaak Hobday is a world champ.
Hobday, a 2022 Athens Area High School grad, won the gold medal in the 1,500-meter run here Wednesday at the Special Olympics World Games.
Hobday also won a silver medal in the 5,000-meter run on Tuesday.
"We are endlessly impressed by your hard work, dedication and love for sport. We knew you could do it and are so proud of you," said a spokesperson for the Bradford / Sullivan Counties Special Olympics.
The Special Olympics World Games are the world's largest inclusive sports event. Thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities compete together in 26 sports. Nine days of exciting and inspiring competitions, by athletes and for athletes.
The games wrap up with the closing ceremonies on Tuesday.
