THE SPORTS REPORTS EXPANDING — ADDING TWO SITES IN BROOME COUNTY (August 10, 2023)

The Sports Reports
The Sports Reports family will be expanding by two in late August, launching a pair of sites to cover the 10 school districts in Broome County.

Longtime Binghamton sports writer Rob Centorani, and recent St. Bonaventure graduate Anthony Goss will be joining The Sports Reports’ family to run the new Web sites.

"Expanding has been something I’ve been looking into since we added the Elmira-Corning site (Southern Tier Sports Report) in 2021," said Tim Birney, owner of The Sports Reports. "Binghamton is the biggest task we’ve taken on, but it seemed like our best opportunity for long-term success.

"And, more importantly, the student-athletes in Broome County deserve the coverage, and exposure we can provide.

"To have someone like Rob Centorani, who is a native of the area, knows these school districts and their histories very well, and can really write on our team is a huge bonus," continued Birney. "He gives us instant credibility in Broome County.

"And to add a talented newcomer like Anthony Goss to our ranks is also exciting," noted Birney. "He is a talented writer, and once he gets his feet wet, and gets to know the student-athletes in his coverage area — he’s going to do great things.

"I’m really excited to see what these two will do with the Broome County Sports Reports," added Birney. "I think the sports fans in our region — not just Broome County — are really going to enjoy their coverage."

Goss will man Broome County Sports Report, which will cover Johnson City, Maine-Endwell, Seton Catholic, Union-Endicott, and Vestal.

Centorani will be in charge of Broome County East Sports Report, which will cover Binghamton, Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley, Susquehanna Valley, and Windsor.

The sites will launch Aug. 28.

ROB CENTORANI
If his name sounds familiar, it's likely because you've been a fan of Section IV athletics at some point over the last five decades.

Binghamton native Rob Centorani will join The Sports Reports team this fall.

Centorani, 54, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He spent 15 years apiece at The Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton and The Daily Star in Oneonta, covering mainly high school athletics. His career started in 1988 as a sports clerk at the Press & Sun-Bulletin and ended as a sports writer back in Binghamton in 2020.

"I can't wait to get started," Centorani said. "You don't realize how much you miss something until you've been away from it."

A 1986 graduate of Binghamton High, Centorani earned an associate’s degree from Broome Community College in 1988 and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Buffalo State College in 1991.

He earned numerous awards from the Associated Press and Gannett over the course of his career, and was inducted into the New York State Softball Hall of Fame in June.

Centorani lives in Windsor with his wife, Robbie. They have three children — Stephen, a teacher in Long Island; Kara, a student in Minnesota; and Ryan, who is in the Army.

"I recently became an empty-nester, so getting back into the sports writing comes at the perfect time," Centorani said. "Can't wait to get back on the sidelines and highlight the talents of our local athletes."

ANTHONY GOSS
Goss, a native of Frisco, Texas, graduated in the spring with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Media from St. Bonaventure.

While at St. Bonaventure, Goss was the Editor-in-Chief of "The Intrepid," and a producer / director for SBU TV Sports. He was also the manager of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team.

His role as Managing Editor of Broome County Sports Report will represent a new challenge.

"I embrace the challenge of beginning my career in the Binghamton area," said Goss.

"High school and youth sports have played a special role in my life," he added. "I’m proud to now have a platform to promote the young student-athletes in these school districts."

The Sports Report now consists of seven Web sites that cover 35 school districts — 21 in New York, and 14 in Pa. — in seven counties.
