COLLEGE FOOTBALL: TIOGA GRAD NAMED ONE OF FOUR CAPTAINS AT MORRISVILLE STATE (2023-08-13)

Valley Sports Report
MORRISVILLE — Tioga grad Cole Williams, a junior offensive lineman on the Morrisville State football team, has been named one of four team captains, according to head football coach Ed Raby, Jr.

Williams is joined as captain by senior quarterback Steven Freichs (Wilson, N.Y.), junior linebacker Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.), and junior defensive lineman Justin Anderson (Jamaica, N.Y.).

"You always hope your team votes for guys that truly embody what a leader is, and demonstrates the culture we desire," Raby said.

"The team did an outstanding job selecting four guys that will be great captains, and each of them have displayed tremendous leadership in our program."

"Steve brings the experience of being a captain; there was no surprise that he was unanimously selected. He has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches, and he is a perfect example of what a leader should be."

"Justin, Cole, and Evan have all been leaders for some time in many ways, and now the team is recognizing that leadership. I was really impressed this offseason with how each of them stepped up to be more vocal with the team; they all have been critical to our improvement since the end of last season. They are very deserving of the honor of being captain."

Morrisville finished the 2022 slate with a 7-4 overall record, putting together a 3-3 Empire 8 slate, while earning an ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl bid.

The 2023 season opens on the road at Kean University on September 2.
