YOUTH BASEBALL: HIGH HEAT WEST 13U, 14U TRAVEL BASEBALL TEAM TRYOUTS CAP SUCCESSFUL FIRST SUMMER IN VALLEY FOR PROGRAM (2023-08-20)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY - High Heat West and the Waverly Sports Complex will host try-outs for a 13U and 14U travel baseball team Monday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. here at East Waverly Park.

Interested players are asked to bring the "normal equipment" for a try-out. There is no cost for the try-out.

The intention is for both teams to hold practices throughout the year, play in four summer tournaments, and participate in a teener league.

High Heat West and the Waverly Sports Complex held four summer baseball camps at Riverfront Park in Sayre, with workouts move inside to the complex on rainy days. Fifty-five youngsters participated in the camps.

"It was a wonderful first year of camps to get players from many areas involved," said camp facilitator Patric Bronson. "We’re definitely excited to continue growing, and more excited to watch these players play for their respective teams.

"I’m just happy to give some of the game I love, back to kids around our community," noted Bronson. "When I was a kid, my mom and dad would get me out of school early to make a training session in Binghamton or be traveling with me several hours away, so it’s great to be able to help and give players close by an incredible experience hosted by a great staff."

The Waverly Sports Complex also hosted a softball camp, facilitated by legendary Villanova head coach Bridget Orchard, and Horseheads grad and reigning Big East "Player of the Year" Tess Cites, in early August that drew nearly 70 campers.

Orchard also hosted a coaching clinic later in the evening that drew coaches from all over the region.
