IAC VOLLEYBALL: TIOGA OUTLASTS NEWARK VALLEY IN FIVE-SET MARATHON FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON (24 PHOTOS) (2023-09-13)
Valley Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY - Tioga earned its first win of the season, but it wasn’t easy.
The Lady Tigers pulled out a back-and-forth five-set marathon against Newark Valley here Wednesday night in IAC Large School volleyball action.
Tioga won the first set, 27-25, but Newark Valley bounced back with a 25-23 win in the second set. After Tioga won the third set, 25-21, Newark Valley evened the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
The Lady Tigers pulled out a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set.
Sophomore RaeAnn Feeko stuffed the stat sheet for Tioga with 19 service points, including six aces, 18 setter assists, 13 digs, five kills, and one block, while senior Lily Mesler had five points, nine assists, and 11 digs, junior Kali Bailey had four points, 10 kills, and 16 digs, and senior Megan Vance added four point and five kills.
Senior Emily Bidwell had four points, three kills, and two digs in the win, while sophomore Lydiah Decker had three pints and 15 digs, and senior Haley Powell chipped in with three points — all aces,
Senior Layni Whitmore had two points, seven kills, and two digs for the Lady Tigers, while sophomore Audi Zorn registered two kills, two blocks, and four digs, senior Joslyn Maciak had two kills and four assists, and sophomore Kendra Noe recorded six digs.
Tioga, now 1-2, hosts Watkins Glen Thursday in its first home match of the season.
JV: Tioga improved to 3-0 on the season with a sweep of Newark Valley by scores of 25-10, and 25-21.
Mary Divers led Tioga with 13 points, including nine aces, and six setter assists, while Lilly Mezzatesta had seven points, including three aces, and two kills, and Vanessa Tunnicliff had six points (two aces) and five kills.
Sara Prough added four points in the win, while Alyson Chamberlain had two points, two kills, three assists, and two digs, Lindsey Jeffreys added two points, three kills, and one block, and Jade Keaty chipped in with two points.
