NTL FOOTBALL: UNBEATEN TROY ROLLS OVER ATHENS, 62-6 (14 PHOTOS) (2023-09-22)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS - Evan Woodward threw four TD passes, and four different Troy running backs ran for scores — all the first half — as the unbeaten Trojans built a 55-0 lead at the half on its way to a 62-6 win over Athens here Friday night in NTL Large School football action at Alumni Stadium.
Woodward threw TD passes of 47 and 7 yards to Camryn Harwick, sandwiched around a 17-yard TD strike to Lincoln Chimics in the first seven minutes of the game to give the Trojans a 20-0 lead.
Mason Smith scored on a 9-yard run, and Jack Burbage added an 8-yard TD run in the closing moments of the first quarter to make it 34-0.
Harwick scored on a 13-yard run, and Jackson Taylor added a 19-yard run midway through the second quarter to make it 48-0.
Woodward capped the scoring late in the quarter with a 40-yard TD pass to Brendan Gilliland, and Brayden Spaulding booted his seventh PAT kick of the half to extend the lead to 55-0.
Senior Kaden Parrish put the Wildcats on the board with a 3-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Noah Ellis provided Troy’s only score of the second half, a 3-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Spaulding’s PAT kick made it 62-6.
The Trojans pounded out 223 yards on the ground on 32 carries. Taylor led Troy with 44 yards and one TD on five carries, while Charles Oldroyd added 39 yards on three carries, and Burbage chipped in with 25 yards and one TD on four carries.
Woodward completed 6 of 9 pass attempts for 127 yards and four TDs. Warwick led Troy with four receptions for 70 yards, and two TDs.
Athens, which lost four of its five fumbles, rushed for 102 yards on 28 carries, and had just 6 passing yards.
Sophomore Eli Chapman rushed for 43 yards on 15 carries, and Parrish had 43 yards and one TD on five carries to lead the Wildcats.
Junior Adam Kemp completed 2 of 3 passes for 8 yards, and Chapman completed 2 of 7 passes for 8 yards. Sean Peters led the Wildcats with two receptions for 8 yards.
Athens, now 1-4, returns to action Friday at Towanda.
