Valley Sports ReportOWEGO - Freshman Graham Wanck continued his string of impressive early-season performances, finishing second at the Owego Cross Country Invitational here Saturday morning at Hickories Park.
Wanck, who won last week’s McDaniel-Baxter Invite, and was second at the Forbes Invite the week prior, finished second in a time of 16:20.0 — 29 seconds behind S-VE senior John Garrison, who clocked in at 15:51.0 on the 5K-course.
Freshman Jacob Shores finished 49th for the Wildcats in a time of 18:42.7, while freshman Matt Rossettie was 57th in 19:01.7, and junior Pierce Oldroyd was 96th in 20:56.9.
Senior Caleb Simwale was 101st in a time of 21.04.3, while sophomore Aidyn Pollock-Sinsabaugh was 103rd in 21:08.7, senior Darius Hall was 113th in 21:44.1, and junior Aiden Oldroyd was 115th in 21:48.0. Junior Gehrig Thurston finished 126th in a time of 22:12.0.
Athens finished ninth in the team standings with 228 placement points. Horseheads won the team title with 84 points, edging runner-up Vestal by four points. Susquehanna was third with 107 points, and Owego was fourth with 111.
Senior Braylon DeKay led Waverly with a 51st-place finish in a time of 18:46.7, while freshman Chase Hine was 65th in 19:21.4, and sophomore Hayden Howe was 102nd in 21:07.2.
Sophomore Talon Wood led Tioga with a 58th-place finish in a time of 19:02.1, and senior Casey Herrala finished 139th in a time of 25:46.3.
JV BOYSJunior Lohith Kinthala finished 63rd for Athens in the JV race in a time of 23:31.6, while sophomore Andrew DeForest was 67th in 23:40.1, freshman Isaac Roy was 77th in 24:21.3, and freshman Ryder Morley was 79th in 24:28.5.
MODIFIEDHayden Montanye led the Waverly mods with a fifth-place finish in a time of 10:17, while Lucas Miller was 12th in 11:08, and Colton Santalucia was 14th in 11:15.
Logan Robinson and Garrett Akins finished 31st and 32nd, respectively, with a time of 16:01.
