THE VALLEY - September comes to a close with the busiest week of high school sports action to this point in the 2023 fall season.

There are 41 events on the docket this week, including 12 on Tuesday, and seven apiece on Thursday and Friday.

The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:

MONDAY (6)
• Athens and Sayre are at the final regular-season NTL golf match at Tomasso’s Golf Course.

• Tioga hosts SVEC on the pitch at Haggerty Field.

• The Athens boys host NP-Liberty on the pitch at Alumni Stadium.

• Waverly hosts STAC Central rival Seton Catholic on the pitch under the lights at Memorial Stadium.

• Waverly hosts Valley rival Sayre on the volleyball hardwoods.

• Tioga volleyball hosts Watkins Glen.

TUESDAY (12)
• Athens hosts Towanda and Cowanesque Valley in an NTL cross country trip meet.

• The Athens girls host Northeast Bradford in an NTL girls soccer match.

• The Tioga girls host Notre Dame on the soccer pitch at Haggerty Field.

• Waverly hosts STAC Central rival Owego on the volleyball hardwoods.

• The Waverly girls hosts Susquehanna Valley in a STAC swim meet.

• Sayre hosts Wellsboro in an NTL volleyball match.

WEDNESDAY (3)
• Athens and Sayre in action at the NTL Team Golf Championships at White Deer.

THURSDAY (7)
• Athens hosts Troy in a key NTL girls soccer match-up.

• Athens volleyball hosts powerhouse NP-Liberty.

• Waverly hosts Oneonta in STAC volleyball action.

• Sayre hosts NTL Small School volleyball rival NEB.

FRIDAY (7)
• Waverly is on the road at Chenango Forks in a key divisional football contest.

• Athens is on the road against NTL Large School football rival Towanda.

• Sayre returns home for the first time in three weeks as it hosts South Williamsport.

• The Athens boys host Galeton in an NTL soccer contest.

• Tioga volleyball hosts Whitney Point.

SATURDAY (6)
• Tioga is on the road at Walton in Section IV, Division V football action.

• Sayre hosts Galeton in a non-league volleyball match.

• Waverly hosts Owego in a STAC Central soccer match.
