NTL CROSS COUNTRY: ATHENS GIRLS TOP TOWANDA, CV; BOYS DROP A PAIR (20 PHOTOS) (2023-09-27)

ATHENS — The Lady Wildcats had five of the first six runners cross the finish line in wins over Towanda and Cowanesque Valley, while the Athens boys dropped a pair of decisions here Tuesday afternoon on a muddy cross-country circuit at Round Top Park.

GIRLS
Athens 15, Towanda 40
Athens 15, CV 50

Junior Sara Bronson and sophomore Ava Hughes finished 1-2 to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Bronson clocked in at 21:24, while Hughes completed the circuit in 22:06.

CV’s Clare McKee — her team’s only runner — was third in 23:02, and followed by a trio of Lady Wildcats. Sophomore Abby Burgess and senior Thea Bentley finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 23:21, and senior Emily Henderson was sixth in 24.50.

The Towanda contingent finished seventh through 12th, and Athens junior Mary Rose Bertsch was 13th in 31:46.

BOYS
Towanda 22, Athens 36
CV 24, Athens 32

CV ace Kristian Mizdail clocked in at 16:33 to win the day, while Athens freshman Graham Wanck was second in 17:04, and Towanda had the next four runners in the field to lead them to wins over Athens and CV.

Athens freshman Jacob Shores was eighth in a time of 19:31, freshman Matt Rossettie was 10th in 20:50, and senior Caleb Simwale was 15th in 21:59.

Junior Aiden Oldroyd (22:21), senior Darius Hall (22:42), and sophomore Aiden Pollock-Sinsabaugh (22:50) finished 18th through 20th, respectively, and sophomore Andrew DeForrest (23:23), junior Thurston Gehrig (23:59), junior Pierce Oldroyd (24:24), junior Lohith Kinthala (24:58), and freshman Ryder Morley (25:25) were 22nd through 26th, respectively.

Freshman Isaac Roy was 28th in 26:41.
