STAC GIRLS SWIMMING: KITTLE, CHERESNOWSKY LEAD WAVERLY TO 110-63 WIN OVER OWEGO (24 PHOTOS) (2023-10-10)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY - Sophomores Mira Kittle and Olivia Cheresnowsky won four events apiece, and were part of a pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay to lead Waverly to a 110-63 win over Owego here Tuesday afternoon in STAC Central Division girls swimming action.
Eighth-grader Lauryn Welles was a triple-winner, and 7th-grader Megan Atanasoff was a double-winner for the Lady Wolverines, who improve to 6-1 on the season.
Kittle, Cheresnowsky, Welles, and Atanasoff won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a pool-record time of 1:42.4, eclipsing the previous mark set by Chenango Valley in 2016.
The same foursome won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:27.89, and the Waverly quartet of 7th-graders Audrey Kellogg, Natalie Steck, Ayla Wheeler, and 8th-grader Brynna Twedt finished second in 4:43.85.
Kittle won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:07.45, and Atanasoff was third in a personal-best time of 1:18.75.
Cheresnowsky won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.46 seconds, and Welles was second in a personal-best time of 26.04 seconds.
Cheresnowsky also won the 100-yard butterfly in a personal-best time of 1:04.17.
Kittle led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in with a time of 1:00.64, while Kellogg was second in 1:04.11, and Twedt was third in 1:13.56. Sophomore Sydney Rosenbloom, swimming exhibition, was fourth in 1:20.69.
Welles won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:21.04, and Steck was third in 1:35.96.
Kellogg won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:31.29, and sophomore Emma Vanderhoff was second in 2:32.83
Junior Lizzy Robinson won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:24.77, and Sophie Williams was second in 7:02.77.
Kellogg, Steck, Robinson, and Wheeler finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:16.47.
Wheeler finished third in the 200-yard IM in a personal-best time of 2:54.86.
Waverly’s Lily Root also swam personal-best times in the 50-yard freestyle (35.35 seconds), and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:48.73).
Owego’s Kaelyn Katchuk established a new pool record in the 1-meter diving competition with a six-dive score of 290.45 points.
Waverly wraps up the regular season Tuesday at STAC powerhouse Chenango Valley.
