NEW YORK STATE FOOTBALL: TIOGA, WAVERLY STATE RANKINGS REMAIN UNCHANGED (2023-10-26)
Valley Sports ReportSYRACUSE - Tioga and Waverly’s rankings in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association’s football rankings remain unchanged.
CLASS CWaverly, now 7-1, remains fifth in the latest Class C rankings, with Section III Cazenovia (7-0), Section II Fonda-Fultonville (7-1), Section I Westlake (6-0), and Section VI Medina (8-0) remaining ranked first though fourth, respectively.
Waverly’s vanquisher from the 2022 state playoffs — General Brown (5-2) of Section III — is currently seventh in the rankings.
Chenango Forks (4-3) is the only other Section IV team in the rankings at 20th, while Susquehanna Valley (4-3), and Schuyler (5-3) are both honorable mentions.
CLASS DTioga (8-0), winners of 35 straight games, remained atop the Class D rankings, with Section VI’s Clymer-Sherman-Panama (8-0), Section II’s Warrensburg-Lake George-Bolton (8-0), Section VI’s Franklinville-Ellicottville (7-1), and Section III’s Sandy Creek (7-0) ranked second thought fifth, respectively.
Delhi (7-1) is ranked sixth, with Section IX Burke Catholic (7-1), its only loss to Tioga at Waverly in Week Zero, is ranked seventh, and Section VII’s Moriah (5-2), which lost to Tioga in the 2021 state title game, is ranked eighth.
Newark Valley (4-4), SVEC (5-3), and Walton (4-3) are all honorable mentions.
