Valley Sports Report
TIOGA CENTER - The Section IV volleyball playoffs begin Tuesday night, and the only action in the Valley has fourth-seeded Tioga (8-7) hosting IAC rival fifth-seeded Newark Valley (7-8) in the Class C quarterfinals.

The teams split their two regular-season match-ups.

Tioga won a five-set marathon at Newark Valley on Sept. 13, breaking a two-match losing streak to open the season.

The Tigers won the first set, 27-25, but the Cardinals bounced back with a 25-23 win in the second set. After Tioga won the third set, 25-21, Newark Valley evened the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.

The Tigers pulled out a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set.

Newark Valley avenged the loss on Oct. 3 with a 3-1 win.

The Cardinals won the first set, 25-18, but the Tigers bounced back to even the match with a 25-17 win in the second set.

Newark Valley closed out the match with wins of 25-23 and 29-27.

The winner advances to the Class C semi-final pool play at top-seeded Trumansburg Thursday.

In other quarter-final action, third-seeded S-VE (11-4) hosts sixth-seeded B-G (7-6), and second-seeded Walton (13-1) hosts seventh-seeded Harpursville (5-7). The winners also advance to semi-final pool play.
