NEW YORK STATE FOOTBALL: TIOGA REMAINS ATOP CLASS D RANKINGS; WAVERLY MOVES UP A SPOT IN CLASS C (2023-11-08)

SYRACUSE — Unbeaten Tioga remains atop the Class D rankings, while Waverly moved up a notch in the latest Class C rankings from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

CLASS D
Two-time defending state champion Tioga, now 10-0 and winners of 37 consecutive games, is still No. 1 in Class D, while Section VI Clymer-Sherman-Panama (9-0) and Section II Warrensburg-Lake George-Bolton (9-0) remain second and third, respectively.

After that, there have been some changes with losses by Franklinville-Ellicottville of Section VI and Sandy Creek of Section III in their respective sectional semi-final games.

Section IV Delhi (9-1) moves into No. 4 in the rankings and Section IX Burke Catholic (9-1) is No. 5. Both Delhi and Burke Catholic’s only losses this season came against Tioga.

Section VII Moriah (7-2), Section I Haldane (6-2), Section II Stillwater (8-1), Section V York-Pavillion (8-1), and Section VI Wilson (7-2) round out the top 10 in sixth through 10th, respectively.

Dolgeville (7-2) and Mount Markham (6-3) are ranked 13th and 14th, respectively, and will play in the Section III title game this weekend, with the winner advancing to play the winner of the Section IV title game between Tioga and Delhi.

CLASS C
With the loss of top-ranked Cazenovia of Section III, the remainder of the top-5 in last week’s rankings bump up a spot, including Waverly (9-1), which moves into the No. 4 spot.

Section II Fonda-Fultonville (9-1), Section I Westlake (8-0), and Section VI Medina (10-0) occupy the top three spots, with Section V Leroy sliding up a spot to No. 5

Section III Adirondack, which upset Cazenovia in the sectional semifinals, jumps up two spots to No. 6, while Section III General Brown (7=2) remains at No. 7. The two teams will square off for the Section III title this weekend, with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Section IV title game between Waverly and Chenango Forks (6-3 and ranked 15th) in the state quarterfinals.

Section XI Babylon (7-2), Section II Schuylerville (9-1), and Section V Attica-Alexander (9-1) round out the top 10 in eighth through 10th, respectively.
