ROCHESTER — Waverly grad Sidney Tomasso, a junior on the St. John Fisher women’s basketball team, has scored in double-figures in all eight games this season, and was named the MVP of the season-opening Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout here at Nazareth University.

Alex Tomasso, Sidney’s older sister and a grad student at St. John Fisher, has played in five games this season after transferring from Merrimack College, where she was a Division I golfer.

SidneyTomasso had 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, 10 rebonds, and three assists, and Alex Tomasso added a 3-pointer and a blocked shot in three minutes of action in SJF’s 83-60 win over RIT in the opening game of the Shootout.

In the finals — a 72-62 win over the University of Rochester, Sidney Tomasso had 21 points, including three 3-pointers, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

On Friday, Sidney Tomasso had 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one blocked shot in a 75-61 win at Hartwick.

She followed Friday’s performance up with back-to-back double-doubles.

On Saturday, Sidney Tomasso had 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 26 minutes in an 84-33 win at Russell Sage College. Alex Tomasso added a 3-pointer, and one rebound in seven minutes.

On Tuesday, Sidney Tomasso had 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, 10 rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot in 21 minutes. Alex Tomasso added seven points, including one 3-pointer, one rebound, two assists, and two steals in nine minutes.

Sidney Tomasso has three double-doubles this season, and has nine rebounds in four games.

On the season, Sidney Tomasso is averaging 15.5 points and 9 rebounds, as well as 1.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in 32 minutes per game. She also has 12 3-pointers, and two blocked shots in eight games.

Alex Tomasso is averaging 3.2 points in 5.2 minutes per game, and has three 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the season.

St. John Fisher, now 6-2, returns to action Saturday when it hosts Cortland. The Cardinals visit Elmira Jan. 6.
