IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: EARLY LEAD PROPELS NEWFIELD TO 42-28 WIN OVER TIOGA (19 PHOTOS) (2023-12-15)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER - Newfield took the lead early, and led throughout in a 42-28 win over Tioga here Friday evening in IAC South Small School Division girls basketball action.
The Trojans jumped out to a 12-3 lead, and led 12-5 at the end of the first eight minutes, then extended their lead to 24-15 at the half.
Newfield outscored Tioga, 11-7, in the third quarter to push its lead to 34-22 heading into the final eight minutes.
Sophomore Mia Hall led Tioga with a career-high 14 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots, while sophomore RaeAnne Feeko had seven points, nine rebounds, two assists, and four steals, and junior Taliah Speer added four points.
Sophomore Lydiah Decker had three rebounds, and three steals for the Tigers, while freshman Sadie Marshall had three boards, five steals, and one blocked shot, senior Kaitlyn Vasey-Hunt had three rebounds, and four steals, and sophomore Emily Zwierlein pulled down four rebounds.
Egypt Henderson led Newfield with 11 points, and Issy Robbins added 10 points.
Tioga, now 0-5, returns to action Tuesday at Groton.
