THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING'S LAWSON HEADLINES GIRLS ALL-REGION CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM AS 'RUNNER OF THE YEAR' (December 20, 2023)
The Sports Reports Corning senior Sarah Lawson finished up her illustrious career in style for the Hawks, winning her third sectional title and capturing her state medal, earning her The Sports Reports' All-Region Girls’ "Runner of the Year."
Lawson also won the STAC, and led the Hawks to another team title at the Section IV Championships.
Wellsboro’s Lauren Kosek burst onto the varsity scene this year, earning a state berth in the always tough District IV, Class AA race, while also being an NTL All-star. She is the Newcomer of the Year.
Corning coach Ray Lawson won another STAC and Sectional title this year as the Lady Hawks continued their strong run, earning him the Coach of the Year honors.
The first team consists of Lawson and teammate Sadie Beres, Owego’s Jaelyn Chrysler, NEB’s Gracelyn Laudermilch, Athens’ Sara Bronson, Towanda’s Izzy Larson, and Kosek.
The second team is made up of Corning’s Ella Grinnell and Lauren Roche, Horseheads’ Mackenzie Baker, Elmira’s Ella Devlin, Wyalusing’s Megan King, NPM’s Jaci Fairchild, and NEB’s Anaiah Kolesar.
On the third team are CV’s Clare McKee, Corning’s Faith Tubbs, Meghan McLaughlin, and Olivia Murch, Newark Valley’s Harley Switzer, Waverly’s Elizabeth Vaughn, and Troy’s Alyssa Parks.
