ATHENS - Waverly raced out to a 38-point halftime lead, and cruised to a 66-19 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the junior varsity boys Valley Christmas Tournament.

Ben Shaw scored seven points in the first quarter, while Peyton Robinson had five points, including a 3-pointer, and Rylen Larson added four points as the Wolverines opened the game with an 18-4 run.

Carson Rockwell pumped in 10 points in the second quarter, and Shaw added six to fuel a 26-2 Waverly blitz to give them a 44-6 lead at the half.

Waverly outscored Tioga, 22-13 in the second half.

Rockwell led Waverly with 17 points, while Shaw had 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals, Robinson had seven points, and six steals, and Bryce LaForest added six points, eight assists, and nine steals.

Eric Lewis scored five points in the win, while Porter Daddona had four points, six boards, and one blocked shot, Preston Besemer had four points, and four rebounds, Carter Davies had four points, and three rebounds, and Larson chipped in with four points.

Dominic Palmer led Tioga with eight points, while James Miller scored seven, and Gavin Kithcart chipped in with four.

Waverly will square off with Athens in the championship game Thursday, while Tioga will take on Sayre in the consolation game.
