NTL SWIMMING: ATHENS GIRLS, BOYS POST BIG WINS OVER TOWANDA (22 PHOTOS) (2024-01-18)
Valley Sports ReportTOWANDA — The Athens girls, led by sophomores Elizabeth Denlinger, and Olivia Thompson, and the Wildcat boys, paced by freshman Eli Hicks, posted big wins over Towanda here Thursday afternoon in NTL swimming action.
The Lady Wildcats topped Towanda, 127-21, and the Athens boys won 106-51.
GIRLS
ATHENS 127, TOWANDA 21Denlinger and Thompson each won four events to lead Athens to a win over Towanda, while freshman Kaitlyn Leonard was a triple-winner, and seniors Grace Cobb, and Emily Marshall, and sophomores Evelyn Panek, and Madeline Henderson were double-winners.
Denlinger led a sweep in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:38.35, while Panek was second in 2:41.89, and senior Maryrose Bertsch was third at 3:21.27.
Denlinger also led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.78, while Panek was second in 1:03.84, and Marshall was third in 1:08.23
Thompson won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 28.29 seconds, and Cobb was second in 30.16 seconds.
Thompson won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.71, and sophomore Kayla Marshall was second in 1:28.51.
Thompson, and Denlinger, teamed with Panek, and Leonard to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:12, and the Athens foursome of Bertsch, Cobb, Kayla Marshall and Henderson was second in 2:37.95.
Denlinger and Thompson teamed with Cobb, and Panek to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:18.83, and the Wildcat foursome of Emily Marshall, Kayla Marshall, Talada, and Rebecca Gifeisman was second in 5:16.76.
Leonard won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:18.98, and senior Maryrose Bertsch was second in 1:41.4.
Emily Marshall led a sweep in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.63, while junior Elizabeth Talada was second in 2:21.91, and Henderson was third in 2:56.66.
Henderson won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:37.14, and Leonard was second in 1:38.61.
Cobb won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:15.94, and Talada was second in 6:45.25.
Leonard, Henderson, Kayla Marshall, and Emily Marshall teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:07.85.
BOYS
ATHENS 106, TOWANDA 51Freshman Eli Hicks was a quad-winner to lead Athens to a 106-51 win over Towanda, while junior Ethan Hicks, and freshman Brayden Pettitt were triple-winners, and junior Ryan Gorman was a double-winner.
Eli Hicks led a sweep in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:23.35, while junior Ronel Ankam was second at 2:33.68, and Gorman was third in 2:38.13.
Eli Hicks also led a sweep in the 100- yard freestyle in a time of 56.01 seconds, while junior Aiden Oldroyd was second in 1:04.28, and freshman Holden McKeever was third in 1:13.64.
Pettitt won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.61 seconds, and sophomore Ty Lezak placed third in 28.13 seconds.
Pettit won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:33.39, and freshman Jacob Shores was second in 6:16.23.
Ethan Hicks won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.88 seconds.
Eli Hicks, and Ethan Hicks, teamed with Ankam, and Gorman to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.12, and the Athens foursome of Aiden Oldroyd, junior Pierce Oldroyd, and freshmen Dominic Musick, and freshman Austin Quattrini was second in 1:56.44.
Eli Hicks, Ethan Hicks, and Pettit teamed with Gorman to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:38.97, while the Wildcat foursome of Shores, Musick, Quattrini, and Lezak was second in 4:17.91.
Shores won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.63, and Quattrini was third in 2:21.91.
Musick won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.18.
Lezak led a sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:17.32, while Ankam was second in 1:17.61 and Aiden Oldroyd was third at 1:30.83.
Athens returns to action this weekend at the Tunkhannock Swimming & Diving Invite.
