WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: WAVERLY GRAD TOMASSO IS EMPIRE 8 'PLAYER OF THE WEEK' FOR THIRD TIME THIS SEASON (2024-01-22)

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Waverly grad Sidney Tomasso, a sophomore on the St. John Fisher women’s basketball team, was named the Empire 8 "Player of the Week," for the second time this month, and third time this season.

She averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game in two wins, including a season-high 25 points in a comeback victory against arch-rival Nazareth

Sidney Tomasso, who was 5-for-10 from the field, had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in just 26 minutes in an 85-44 win over Utica College on Tuesday.

Waverly grad Alex Tomasso, a grad student, had two rebounds, and one assist in nine minutes of playing time.

On Saturday, Sidney Tomasso pumped in 25 points, and grabbed seven rebounds, to go along with one assist, two steals, and one blocked shot in a 69-62 win over Nazareth. She knocked down one 3-pointer, and was 10-for-10 from the line.

On the season, Sidney Tomasso has started in all 17 games. She is averaging 16.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.1 point assists per game in 31.9 minutes per game. She also has 25 3-pointers on the season.

Tomasso currently has 986 points — 25th on the school's all-time scoring list, and 399 rebounds on her career.

St. John Fisher, now 15-2 and winners of 13 straight, will host Sage College Friday.
