NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: PELLICANO, GRIFFIN FUEL SECOND-QUARTER BLITZ IN SAYRE'S 55-24 WIN OVER MONTGOMERY (January 22, 2024)

MONTGOMERY - Juniors Nick Pellicano and Mikey Griffin combined for 22 points in a second-quarter blitz that blew the game wide-open as Sayre posted a 55-24 win over Montgomery here Monday night in non-league boys basketball action.

Pellicano scored eight points in the first quarter, while junior Hudson Trump added four, and junior Zach Senese drained a 3-pointer to help Sayre to a 17-10 lead.

Griffin, who knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and Pellicano, who had an old-fashioned three-point play, scored 11 points apiece, and sophomore Karter Green had five points, including a trey, to fuel a 31-5 blitz in the second quarter that extended the Redskin lead to 48-15 at the half.

Pellicano scored the only bucket of the third quarter, and Sayre led 50-15 entering the final eight minutes.

Pellicano led Sayre with 21 points, while Griffin scored 11, Green added seven points, and Trump chipped in with four.

Ethan Tupper led Montgomery with five points.

Sayre, now 6-9, hosts Wyalusing Tuesday night.
