Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - Sayre built a 17-point halftime cushion, and cruised to a 53-39 win over Western Wayne in non-league junior varsity boys basketball action here Saturday afternoon.
Mikey Griffin scored four points in the first quarter, while Rommel Suba canned a 3-pointer, and Dalton Forrest converted an old-fashioned three-point play in helping Sayre to a 12-5 lead after the first eight minutes.
Griffin knocked down a 3-pointer, and scored five points in the second quarter, and Suba drained another 3-pointer to fuel a 15-5 blitz that pushed the Redskin advantage to 27-10 at the half.
Western Wayne closed the gap to 39-30 with a 20-12 run in the third quarter, but Ryan Ressler scored four points in the fourth quarter, Declan Barry connected on a 3-pointer, and Sayre made enough free throws down the stretch (6 of 11) to nail down the win.
Griffin led Sayre with 15 points, while Barry scored 11, Forrest had 10, Ressler scored seven, Suba added six, and Shaine Strickland chipped in with four.
Sayre returns to action Tuesday at Wyalusing.
