IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: STATE-RANKED UNION SPRINGS ROLLS TO 58-23 WIN OVER TIOGA (11 PHOTOS) (2024-02-02)

TIOGA CENTER - Tioga led by seven points midway through the first quarter, but the remainder of the game belonged to state-ranked Union Springs, which posted a 58-23 win, here Friday evening in IAC girls basketball crossover action.

The Wolves, ranked 10th in the state in Class C, took a quick 5-0 lead, but the Tigers knocked down four consecutive 3-pointers — two by sophomore Mia Hall, and one each by sophomore RaeAnne Feeko, and junior Taliah Speer — take a 12-5 lead with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter.

After a time out, Union Springs began pressing full-court, and closed the quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 16-12 lead.

The Wolves took control with a 17-5 blitz in the second quarter to take a 33-17 lead into the halftime intermission, then outscored Tioga, 13-4, in the third quarter to extend its lead to 46-21.

Feeko had eight points, five rebounds, and three steals, and Speer had eight points, and five boards to lead Tioga, while Hall added seven points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

Tioga committed 35 turnovers in the loss.

Kyla Wejko led Union Springs with 26 points, and Madison Kalet added 21 points.

Tioga, now 0-15, hosts S-VE Tuesday.
