NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: NP-LIBERTY TOPS SAYRE, 44-34 (13 PHOTOS) (2024-02-02)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - North Penn-Liberty jumped out to an early lead on its way to a 44-34 win over Sayre here Friday evening in NTL Small School Division girls basketball action.
The Mounties led 13-4 after the first quarter, and used a 7-5 spurt in the second quarter to take a 20-9 lead into the halftime locker room.
NP-L outscored Sayre, 10-7, in the third quarter to extend its lead to 30-16 heading into the final eight minutes.
The Redskins cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter. Junior Abbie McGaughey scored nine points, and senior Lizzy Shaw added seven to fuel an 18-14 spurt in the closing stanza.
McGaughey posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sayre, while Shaw had 14 points, and four rebounds, sophomore Rylee Lantz hauled down nine rebounds, and blocked one shot, freshman Payton Black grabbed seven boards, and blocked one shot.
Kendall Graham and Tierney Patterson led NP-L with 15 points apiece.
Sayre, now 0-20, hosts Canton Wednesday.
