NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: WYALUSING PULLS OUT 63-56 WIN OVER SAYRE (2024-02-05)

SAYRE - Wyalusing took control of a back-and-forth contest in the fourth quarter with a stellar performance at the free-throw line, and pulled out a 63-56 win over Sayre here Saturday afternoon in NTL boys basketball action.

Junior Nick Pellicano scored eight points in the first quarter, while junior Zach Senese canned a pair of 3-pointers, and sophomore Karter Green added a trey as Sayre got out to a 20-17 lead at the end of the first eight minutes.

Pellicano and junior Ryan Ressler each scored four points in the second quarter, and Green and Senese each connected on 3-pointers, but the Rams outscored the Redskins, 17-16, to trim the deficit to 36-34 at the half.

Ressler scored four more points in the third quarter, and Pellicano and Senese each added 3-pointers, but Wyalusing trimmed another point off the lead. Sayre led 50-49 heading into the final eight minutes.

Wyalusing’s Trehnon Hugo scored five points, including a 3-pointer in the opening minute, early in the fourth quarter, then was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line down the stretch as the Rams used a 15-6 run to pull out the win.

Senese led Sayre with 18 points on six 3-pointers, while Pellicano scored 15 points, and Ressler added 10.

Hugo led Wyalusing with 15 points, while Zabiah Walton, and Nick Vanderpool each scored 14, and Hunter House added 12 on four 3-pointers.

Sayre, now 9-11, closes out the regular season with home games against Canton Tuesday, and Cowanesque Valley Thursday.
