(UPDATED) ON TAP TODAY: WAVERLY GIRLS, BOYS FACE STATE-RANKED NON-LEAGUE FOES TONIGHT (2024-02-05)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - The Waverly girls travel to top-ranked Class B team in New York State tonight, while the Waverly boys are on the road against former IAC rival Lansing in a battle of state-ranked teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Waverly (12-3) at Lansing (15-1), 5:45 p.m. JV start:
The Wolverines, ranked 11th in Class B, are coming off a 79-35 thrashing of Chenango Forks, while the Bobcats topped state-ranked Trumansburg, 57-43.

Waverly, by virtue of a stronger schedule in the STAC, is currently the top seed in the upcoming Section IV, Class B playoffs, with Lansing seconds, and Trumansburg a distant third.

Waverly beat Lansing three times last season, including wins in the overall IAC Large School championship game, and the Class B semifinals 11 days apart.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Waverly at Hornell (14-1), 5:30 p.m JV start:
The Wolverines are coming off a 58-37 loss to state-ranked Chenango Forks, ranked 10th in Class B, and will now face No. 1 in the state Hornell, which is coming off a 95-33 win over Wayland-Cohocton.

Earlier this season, Hornell topped Waverly at home, 60-43.

Athens (6-11) at Benton (8-11), 6 p.m. JV start:
The Wildcats are coming off a 55-38 loss to division-leading Troy Friday, while the Tigers topped Sullivan County, 20-16.
