OWEGO - Waverly got off to a fast start, and pulled away from Owego in the second half en route to a 46-16 win here Tuesday night in STAC Central Division junior varsity girls basketball action.

Lecksie Douglas scored six points in the first quarter, and Kaylin Twedt added four points to help Waverly to a 12-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Kaitlyn Sutton drained a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter as the Wolverines used a 9-5 spurt to stretch their lead to 21-10 at the half.

Six different Wolverines scored in the third quarter to fuel a 13-4 spurt that extended the lead to 34-14 entering the fourth quarter.

In the final eight minutes, Twedt knocked down a 3-pointer, and scored five points, and Taylin Gonzalez added a 3-pointer in a 12-2 game closing run.

Twedt led a balanced Waverly attack with 13 points, while Sutton and Douglas scored nine points apiece, and Madison Cron and Hannah Carpenter each added four points.

Waverly, now 12-4, hosts Chenango Valley Thursday, and can clinch the division title with a win.
