NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: NP-MANSFIELD KNOCKS OFF ATHENS, 65-46 (20 PHOTOS) (2024-02-08)

ATHENS - North Penn-Mansfield closed out the first quarter with a 13-0 run, and Athens never got closer than seven points the remainder of the game in a 65-46 loss here Thursday night in NTL Large School Division boys basketball action.

NP-M took an early 5-1 lead, but senior Nicholas Jacob buried a 3-pointer to close the gap to 5-4.

After the teams traded buckets, senior Korey Miller canned a 3-pointer to give Athens its first lead, at 10-9, midway through the first quarter.

About a minute later, Miller hit a short jumper to give the Wildcats their last lead of the game, at 11-10.

Karson Dominick, who had 11 points in the opening stanza, and Cooper Shaw, who had 10 points, scored the final 13 points of the quarter to give the Tigers a 23-11 lead.

Junior Jase Babcock scored, off a feed from senior Connor Mosher, in the opening seconds of the second quarter, and Mosher added a pair of free throws with 6:30 left in the half to close the gap to 23-15.

Shaw, and Alex Davis scored buckets for NP-M to make it 27-15, but Jacob answered with a 3-pointer to close the gap to 27-18.

After two minutes of scoreless action, Shaw canned a 3-pointer to make it 30-18, then Mosher closed out the first-half scoring with an old-fashioned three-point play to trim the deficit to 30-21 at the half.

Shaw knocked down a 3-pointer in the opening moments of the third quarter to give NP-M a 33-21 lead, but junior Jase Babcock answered with a 3-pointer, and Mosher scored seconds later to cut the lead to 33-26 less than 60 seconds into the second half.

After Dominick and Mosher traded buckets to make the score 35-28, Dominic scored six straight points to up the NP-M lead to 41-28.

Miller slowed the NP-M momentarily with a 3-pointer, but Dominick made back-to-back buckets to increase the lead to 45-31.

NP-M maintained its lead throughout the remainder of the game, upping it to 21 points on a couple of occasions in the fourth quarter.

Mosher led Athens with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Miller had 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, three rebounds, and four steals, and Jacob added nine points on three 3-pointers, and four rebounds.

Babcock had five points, three rebounds, and three assists for the Wildcats, while sophomore James Friend grabbed three rebounds, and junior Troy Rosenbloom dished out three assists.

Dominick poured in 29 points to lead the Tigers, and Shaw scored 21.

Athens, now 13-8, wraps up the regular season Tuesday at NEB.
