STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY FALLS TO HORSEHEADS, 55-33, IN SEASON FINALE (5 PHOTOS) (2024-02-09)

WAVERLY - Horseheads jumped out to an early lead, and pulled away for a 55-33 win over Waverly here Friday night in STAC crossover girls basketball action.

The Blue Raiders jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter, despite a pair of 3-pointers by Waverly sophomore Brilynn Belles, and one by senior Paige Robinson.

Horseheads held Waverly without a field goal in a 9-3 second-quarter spurt that extended the lead to to 27-12 at the half.

The Blue Raiders blew the game open with an 18-6 blitz in the third quarter to take a 45-18 lead into the fourth quarter

Waverly, playing for the second night in a row without leading scorer freshman Ryleigh Judson, was led by Robinson and Belles, who scored nine points apiece, 8th-grader Maci Wheeler, who had six points, and senior Ashlen Croft, who chipped in with four points.

Megan Wolfe led Horseheads with 16 points, and Sophia Bonnell added 14 points.

Waverly wraps up the regular season at 9-9.
