THE WEEK AHEAD: REGULAR SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE (2024-02-11)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY - The regular season draws to a close on both sides of the border this week, and the postseason shifts into high gear Friday, and especially Saturday — highlighted by the start of the Pa. wrestling individual championships.
There are 15 events on the docket this week, including five on Saturday, and four on Monday.
There’s still a chance that a regular-season game or two could be added, with Waverly rumored to be hosting Union-Endicott on the hardwoods.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (4)• The Tioga boys host Ithaca (varsity only) in its regular-season finale.
• Athens hosts Notre Dame in a non-league girls basketball contest.
• The Sayre girls host Canton on the hardwoods.
• The Tioga girls travel to Dryden for the regular-season finale.
TUESDAY (1)• Athens hosts Northeast Bradford in the boys hoop regular-season finale.
WEDNESDAY (3)• The Sayre girls close out the regular season with a home game against Cowanesque Valley.
• The Waverly boys swim in the Section IV, Class B preliminaries.
• The Waverly girls take on Horseheads Wednesday prior to a women’s wrestling dual at Elmira College.
THURSDAY (1)• The Athens girls host Wyalusing in the regular-season finale.
FRIDAY (1)• Waverly and Tioga compete in the Section IV Class boys bowling championships at Midway Lanes in Vestal.
SATURDAY (5)• The Athens and Sayre wrestlers compete at the North Section Championships at Athens Area High School.
• The Athens and Sayre girls compete at the District 4 Girls Wrestling Championships at Williamsport High School.
• Waverly and Tioga compete in the Section IV Class girls bowling championships at Midway Lanes in Vestal.
• The Waverly boys swim in the Section IV, Class B Championships.
• Waverly will compete at the Section IV Indoor Track & Field Showcase at SUNY Cortland.
