THE VALLEY - Waverly senior Mackenzie LaForest, and Tioga 8th-grade Kyah Nelson each won their second Section IV wrestling title, while Waverly sophomore Troy Beeman, and Tioga freshman Declan McKee each won their first. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 11.

WAVERLY LaFOREST, TIOGA’S NELSON NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
LaForest won her second Section IV title in three years, avenging her loss to Windsor’s Alexis Durdon last year, with a 1-0 win in the finals Saturday.

LaForest scored two pins to reach the finals against Durdon, who had beaten her two of the three times they met this season entering the match.

Nelson needed just 81 seconds to record two falls and win her second Section IV title. She scored her first fall in 29 seconds, and her second in 51.

Honorable Mentions: Athens’ Addy Wheeler (basketball), Tioga’s Kali Bailey (wrestling), Tioga’s Amelia Toomey (wrestling), and Waverly’s Elona Holmes (wrestling)

WAVERLY BEEMAN, TIOGA’S McKEE NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Beeman punched his return ticket to states with three wins for the 285-pound title at the Section IV, Division 2 Championships.

Beeman advanced to the finals with a pair of pins.

In his first varsity season, McKee won the 101-pound title with a 7-4 win over second-seeded Caden Higley of Sidney.

He advanced to the finals with a 59-second fall, and a 17-2 technical fall of fourth-seeded Dylan Newman of Windsor.
